Cosplay Feature: Pam Isley/Poison Ivy

There are some fantastic femme fatales in the Batman universe and Poison Ivy has always been a favorite of mine. Hands down. Selena Kyle, who I’ve already tried on for size, is fun and frisky. But Pamela Lillian Isley is a creature all her own. A botanist turned eco-terrorist, Poison Ivy is a character you love to hate, or vise versa. No matter how bad she is, I always find myself rooting (pun intended) for her maniacal and misguided schemes.

Cosplay Feature: Patience/The Magdalena

[Update: 2/12] I’ve added a second gallery with recent photos from Katsucon 2012! I polished up the costume a bit, and am estatic with the lovely snaps by Anna Fischer and LJinto. Check them out!

I put on Patience’s black boots and chaps yesterday for Minnesota’s FallCon convention, and it motivated me to get my butt in gear and officially post my costume write-up and photos. Read on for more details about how this costume came to be.

Cosplay Feature: Sara Pezzini/Witchblade

Update: Witchblade 2.0 images added!

I will admit that this costume scared the crap out of me when I decided to make it. First, I had no idea how I was going to make the Witchblade – and considering what a huge fan I am of the comic – I was not willing to do it half-assed. Second, wearing 100% latex is a frightening thought. Still, looking back, the costume was a blast to make and I am pretty happy with the results. I am not completely finished with the costume – I think I am going to add a bit more of the Witchblade armor to the boots and my chest, but I am close enough to done that I am going to keep wearing it out to conventions.

Cosplay Feature: Fatal Frame III

As a huge fan of Fatal Frame III, I was excited by the idea of crafting a costume from the game. Namely, I wanted to give the Tattooed Priestess Reika a go, as it would be a drastic departure from the type of characters I’ve portrayed in the past. My friend and cosplay cohort Ashley Hay joined me as the game’s main protagonist Rei.

Cosplay Feature: 1920s Fashion

While I always knew that my husband’s grandma collected hats, I had no idea that she had hats dating back to the 1850s. Since I have such an affinity for dressing up, I asked her to borrow some of the original hats she had from the 1920s. Since she has over 500 hats in her collection, she gave me seven to keep after I shot them. It took lots of research and preparation to do this shoot!

Sculpture: Dragonfly Tribute

As some of you may know, the first two pieces in my sculpture class were video game related. My first was a ChocoMog and the second was an 8-bit tribute to Super Mario Bros. I knew going into this project that it was not going to be video game related, which was kind of a bummer, but at the same time it was a great gift for my parents. Every once in a while I need to remember that I do have a life outside videogames…

Sculpture: ChocoMog

I took on this project in sculpture class my final year of college in 2007. For our first project we were required craft a piece that combined two different types of animals, using only sheet metal and rods. Right away I tried to figure out how to make this project something I could put in my game room, and I thought it would be super cute to “breed” a Chocobo and a Moogle together.
